Storyline

Devidas "Devi" Thakur, the youngest son of criminal mastermind Kalidas Thakur, returns from his mother Uma's birthday celebration in Singapore. Devi is in love with his childhood friend Parveen, also known as Pari, the daughter of Anwar, a close ally of his father, and has no desire to work in the family business. As Kalidas declines to assist Francis D'costa, another drug lord, in importing cocaine, an attempt is made to kill him, and Anwar is named as a suspect. Ranjeet Venkat Shankarnarayanan, Kalidas's son-in-law, murders Anwar before he can prove his innocence. Pari swears on her unborn child that she will eliminate Devi and the entire Thakur lineage in order to get revenge for his death.

Devi assumes control of Kalidas's company while he is unconscious and puts an end to their illicit operations, killing Francis for assaulting his father. Pari decides to destroy the Thakur family and teams up with Vishambhar Rana, Kalidas' adversary. In order to eliminate Kalidas, Devi, and his brother Ramdas Thakur, Ranjeet, who aspires to succeed Kalidas, teams up with Rana. After Ramdas beats Ranjeet for beating his wife and his sister Rathna, Ranjeet catches Ramdas with a chainsaw and kills him. In the ensuing gang fight, Kalidas pretends to be dead and finds out that Ranjeet and Rana were involved in Anwar and Ramdas' demise.

Pari and Rana go to the shrine where Devi is finishing Kalidas' fictitious rite after Rana leads Pari to believe that Devi abducted her son Ishan. Devi ends Rana's match despite his injuries and makes amends with Pari. Devi succumbs to his wounds shortly after, and Pari is saddened and also dies beside Devi. Uma, Rathna, Ranjeet, and Kalidas depart for Goa. After Kalidas exposes Ranjeet's transgressions, Rathna murders him, and they set fire to their automobile before moving to a new city to begin a new life.

Critical reaction

"The Power could have been a fitting response of this decade to the Sarkar franchise, but a lacklustre narrative, among other things, brings the power down to level zero," wrote Pallabi Dey Purkayastha of The Times of India, awarding the film 2.5/5 stars.Rediff's Joginder Tuteja awarded the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars, saying that "The Power could have been more powerful if the film had been crisper with solid drama in the second half too."The Power" is interesting at first, but as it progresses, it becomes obvious that it belongs in the "if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all" category of underworld films. Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost scored it 1.75/5 stars.
